Good news for all fans of light music! Colin Berry has told us that he is doing another ”A Little Light Music” show on Easter Monday on BBC Three Counties Radio. This is set to be a real treat for those of us who appreciate the wonderful and overlooked light music sound. Colin promises some true light music gems, including what he calls some “class” commercial items too. Show details are:

Details of the first programme is set out below with some links through to Colin’s pages on the BBC website and to his excellent regular show, The Club.

What a pleasure it was to hear the last “A Little Light Music”, broadcast in December. A superb selection of classic tunes and themes, most of which were never released commercially. And all presented by one of the country’s remaining gems of radio - the perfect combination!
The show included some marvellous tracks from the leading session and light music orchestras of yesteryear. We were treated to many non-commercial tracks, tv themes and testcard pieces (was strange but wonderful to hear the full World of Sport theme on our radios!).
We would love to hear more shows of this sort. A couple of hours of proper light music, the tuneful well crafted pieces that so many love, was a rare delight. One has to look very hard indeed to uncover any such material on the vast BBC network these days. This is particularly sad considering that music of this kind was the basis of the old Light Programme, the station that transformed into Radio 2 in the late 60s. For many years, Radio 2 featured delightful light music as part of its regular schedule.
Colin should be commended for this marvellous show, which will have been appreciated by so many of us, young and old, who lament the passing of this era of radio. We very much hope he repeats this theme in the near future - please BBC, give us more of this kind of radio.
If you agree with us, we’d be pleased to hear from you here.
Our best regards to Colin and his production team, and thanks also for the most enjoyable, regular show each Saturday night.

Hi. I totally agree. This music deserves to be heard by a wider audience I fully support your campaign.
Delighted to hear of this new programme that Colin Berry is going to present over the Easter holidays, I am only sad that I missed the 1st one which I believe was broadcast last December. If anyone has a recording of it I would be happy to buy a copy.
Good luck with your campaign. I myself broadcast a weekly radio programme for local hospital radio, and this is the music I play myself. It’s brilliant music but sadly very underrated.
All the best

Hi Paul
Good to hear that you are broadcasting some light music each week - well done! If you want to send any details of your show/interests to us, we’d be happy to add an article to this site.
We are really looking forwad to Colin’s show which we know will be a real treat for many of us who enjoy light music. We hope the BBC gives us more of this kind of show in the coming months.
All the best and thanks for supporting the Campaign For Real Music!

Thanks Paul.
I really enjoyed Colin’s programme and thought it was an excellent.
As for myself, I present a radio programme to the patients and staff of Barnet Hospital in Hertfordshire every Thursday evening between 8 - 9pm.
The programme is a selection of light orchestral music, film soundtracks, television themes, Broadway and film musicals, and the best of the ‘classic’ vocalists from the American songbook Tin Pan Alley era.
With the exception of the vocalists, my programme is very much in the spirit of Colin’s programme and the new UK Light Radio station.
This is music for a more sophicated audience, and I wish there was more of this type of music on the radio airwaves.
All the best
Paul
