I believe there is someone missing from this list. John Peel. Certainly a legend of broadcasting and he championed many artists and records. A bit obscure sometimes, outspoken, often controversial but always entertaining and witty. Sadly missed.

A great list but you seem to have left Brian Matthew out. His knowledge of 60s pop is legendary but his recent series on R2 on the Bands that Mattered showed that his grasp of popular music is far wider than that.

Thanks for your additional suggestions, Les and Ian, both of which should indeed be recognised in this list.
We’ve also realused we gave left off two further legends – Alan Freeman and Kenny Everett. Both had a unique style, put so much effort into their shows, and made the best use of technology when there was little technology to use. Like John Peel, they could also be controversial (especially Kenny). Fortunately, BBC Radio 7 repeats some of Kenny Everett’s shows from time to time, and they are a delight to hear once again.
