ABOUT STEVE KIW
The early days Steve Ellis started dj'ing in bars around London in the early 90's.
He'd spent all his school pocket money on discounted records and
then spent all of his 18th birthday money (and some more!)
on decks and a mixer. In 1996 he was approached to become
a resident at Enigma's unofficial Ministry of Sound
after-parties which often started at 7am and were still
going strong as Sunday eased into Monday! Residencies at
The Cross and Hanover Grand co-incided with the emergence
of the nascent London based "UK Garage" sound and Steve
grabbed opportunities to spin in Manchester (including a spot
warming up for chart-topper Roger Sanchez at the infamous
Hacienda), Cornwall, Amsterdam and Ibiza.
Wheeling in the years
In the mid-late 90s Steve was resident at Enigma’s Fallen Angels parties at Babushka, Hanover Grand and The Cross; he also played guest spots at the Ministry of Sound and Ibiza's Cafe Mambo and had regular bookings in Amsterdam, Manchester and Cornwall. Last year he reached the top ten of Irish collective Bodytonic’s DJ’ing contest and his 'live' “50 records an hour” style of mixing encompasses music from across the board. Steve is also a member of the globally unknown collective The Balearic Assassins of Love.
Chrome plated
Nowadays, in addition to producing his own material, Steve
promotes his own twice weekly Keep It Wheel sessions
at Enfield’s Bar Form and also runs the Cratediggers parties for Norman Jay MBE, at The Lodge in Harlesden. His off-the-wall style takes in music from
every imaginable genre - with a collection of over 15,000 records to choose from.
Steve is certain to amuse and guaranteed
to entertain.
PUSH FM Steve's radio show on Push allows him to explore all genres of music and to demonstrate the roots of house go deep. Definitely preferable to the pub on a Friday lunchtime!
