Massimo Lavagnini's sublime Deeper Creeper project is the first release for the new deft digital imprint. ETHOS
We aim to continue the long tradition of deep house coming out of the Midlands, UK. Take a deep percussive groove, add some funky influences from the NY and San Fran sounds, maybe a soulful vocal and some live musicians, that's Deft.

HISTORY
Launched in Nottingham in 2002, from small beginnings the first release on deft recordings managed to cause quite a stir. Sunshine was a collaboration between label co-founder Chris Adamson and Sam Toolan (one of the warped genius behind Misti Blu by amillionsons), recording as Brix n Mortar. It set the standard by which the label was to be judged and was one of the underground tracks of last summer, being caned off promo by many Ibiza jocks. It was remixed by Schmoov!, fresh from supporting Groove Armada on a UK tour, who took the track to an altogether deeper level, turning in an exquisite slice of electro beach-funk.

The Deft Team

MAKE YOU MINE

Our second release, Make You Mine by Kitster, featured a searing vocal from rising star and recent winner of the Princes Trust Pride of Britain Award, Sarah Bennett. Sarah is an outstanding upcoming talent as was recently proved when Ms Dynamite raved about her to the national press saying: Any record company should rush to sign her. She sings from the heart and is so talented, we need that. The remix from Crazy Penis (Naked Music, Paper Recordings etc.) caused mayhem on dancefloors across the country, after being playlisted by Norman Jay on his Giant45 radio show broadcast on BBC Radio London. It was also HMVs tune of the week and garnered rave reviews in the music press.

I NEED RELEASE
I Need Release by Martin Mcfly was next out for deft which used Caroline Howes sultry jazz vocals to superb effect and continues to receive strong support from DJs as diverse as the legendary Danny Krivit, Digs & Woosh (DiY), Faize Music and Mutiny (Underwater Records). It was playlisted on Kiss FM and Ministry of Sound Radio. We recruited rising star Reza (Daywalkerz, Santiago Soul) to do the remix which went on to become a main room staple. Since then Rezas productions have been snapped up left, right and centre with releases on DTPM records and Richard Fs Spread Music to name just a few.

STEAM RISING

Martin Mcfly once again stepped up to provide our fourth release, Steam Rising. Dom Navarra and Alex Wheeler aka Sueno Soul are without doubt one of the emerging talents of this new millennium and turned in an astounding remix. The fact that their first production Find a Place was signed by New Yorks Easy Street Records (home to such house legends as Blaze, David Morales, and Full Intention), gave some indication of their pedigree. Subsequent Sueno Soul tracks have been snapped up by labels all over the world, culminating with two tracks on Roger Sanchez latest Release Yourself compilation and a forthcoming artist album for his Stealth label. It surely cant be long before these guys are household names, and we are proud to have been one of the first labels to release their material.

SUMMER SAMPLER

Our Summer Sampler hit the shops in mid June 2005 and featured a track from every artist who has released on the label so far. Brix n Mortar, who started things off for deft returned with another slice of their trademark funk-laden deep house sound. Sueno Soul also returned to the fold with (You are) Head Candy, whilst Kitster and Martin McFly contributed tracks of typical quality. The Summer Sampler hit the DJ magazine hype chart two months before it was released and went on to be Deft's strongest selling release to date with committed support and praise from Ben Watt, Allister Whitehead and CJ Mackintosh.

2006

2006 will continue to see another hectic release schedule with deft continuing to do what we do best releasing the finest in deep, soulful house music.
