The Fifties brought us much more than rock and roll, and was responsible for some of the greatest, most influential, artists and albums of all time. Examples include:
> SINATRA - overlooked in favour of the likes of New York New York, his earlier work was magnificent > ISLEY BROTHERS - why don't people play music like this at house parties these days?
> MANFRED MANN - a proper group playing real music, deserved of another spin today > JULIE LONDON - Diana Krall is so popular, but Julie London was the real McCoy years earlier
MUSIC FROM THE 30s & 40s
OVERLOOKED MASTERPIECES
Nip into your local coffee bar and you will hear the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah VAughn and the sound of the Big Band playing in the background. Its time gems like these were given a broader audience:
> HARRY JAMES - the man who brought us Sinatra, and a wonderful swinging sound
> DANCE BANDS - so many great British recordings are being remastered and re-released
> LOUIS JORDAN - if you like some rhythm, then the many jump jive classics are for you > DICK HAYMES - the great crooners from the era deserve to be more widely heard these days
