CAMPAIGN: BBC radio - why we need BBC Eight Light
We need BBC Radio Eight. While music preference should be independent of age, it is evident that the BBC provides handsomely for the youth audience: they get Radio 1, 1Xtra, 6 Music and the BBC Asian Network. And much of Radio 2’s offering is in fact aimed at attracting a younger audience. What does the BBC currently offer to those of us who wants to listen to Bing Crosby, Duke Ellington or Robert Farnon? Nothing! If you agree, disagree, or have a better idea, let us know now!

DANCE BANDS: Dance Bands Demise
Dance bands are the latest to get the chop from the new “supercool” Radio 2. BBC management ditched the dance band section of Malcolm Laycock's 10-11pm show on a Sunday evening, then forced this brilliant broadcaster off the station too. Sadly, Malcolm passed away a few months later. What a great loss to radio, which may mark the demise of this type of music altogether, as it now has no presence on national and DAB radio. Lots of you are angry about this, as can be seen by clicking the link below:

SOUL SHOW: Les Adams - Dancefloor Classics
If you are yet to hear Les's fantastic Dancefloor Classics show, set aside 8-10pm next Saturday, tune into Solar Radio and then turn up your volume. Your neighbours will soon coming knocking to ask you to turn it up some more, since this is one of the definitive soul shows on air. Les is a true icon of soul music. His legendary mixes are master-classes in the art. It is fair to say that he is one of a select handful of individuals who set the standard for dance music djing.

RANT: BBC radio - a big confidence trick?
What in fact does BBC 6 Music do? We're not here to knock the quality of its programming or presenters. But as the first national music radio station to be launched by the BBC in 32 years, the question we ask is what does it provide that isn’t already catered for elsewhere? As Radio 2 goes from strength to strength, if you care about figures, which the BBC clearly does, we are starting to suspect we may have been subject to a rather sophisticated confidence trick.

SOUL PROFILE: StreetSounds
Back in the early 1980s, a collection of soul LPs came along which, for many of us, changed our worlds forever. Each StreetSounds edition was something to get truly excited about. Why? Because you could be certain that every release would contain all of the very best dance tracks of the day. Not the usual two-and-a-half minute album versions, either, but the full length, extended and often exclusive remix versions, some tracks running to over 10 minutes. Listen also to top soul DJ Marky Mark's trip down 1980s memory lane.

CAMPAIGN: Campaign against copyright extension
Wealthy artists such as Sir Cliff Richard and Sir Paul McCartney will be delighted to learn that Europe has voted in favour of extending copyright on music recordings from 50 years to 70 years. But this is set to be a total disaster for the broader music industry. Why? Simply, if this proposal is in fact implemented in the UK, it will force out of business numerous small businesses which undertake the worthy task of revitalising lost musical gems. If you agree or disagree, let us know by clicking the link below.
